Nate Yu's Blast From the Past

My name is Nate Yu Riley, and sometimes I think I'm the worst Chinese person ever!

Nate knows he looks Chinese on the outside - but what is he on the inside? He can't speak Chinese, and he doesn't know anything about Chinese customs. So
what if a First World War shell casing engraved with a Chinese dragon turns up in a history exhibition at school - why should he be interested in it?

'It's a phenomenally good read...I loved Nate...everyone was so perfectly drawn, I'd be happy to spend more time with each of them. As with all of Maisie's books, the balance of genuine worries and concerns with good-hearted humour is so well pitched. This is my favourite book of Maisie's so far!

Darren Matthews, CLPE (Centre for Literacy in Primary Education)

'A moving, hopeful story that manages to be both hugely entertaining as wel as inspiring and educational. A story of vital importance.'  Ian Eagleton, author of Glitter Boy

'Nate Yu's Blast From the Past has all the trademarks of a Maisie Chan book -warmth, heart and humour!  Lui Sit, author of The Land of the Last Wildcat (Waterstones Book of the Month, May 2025)
